Sony Ericsson Joins the WiMAX Forum




Sony Ericsson today announced it has become a member of the WiMAX Forum, WiMAX allows high-speed internet access from laptops, phones or other mobile devices over larger distances than previous technologies such as Wi-Fi.



The WiMAX Forum is an industry-led non-profit organization comprising more than 440 companies committed to promoting and certifying interoperable WiMAX products. WiMAX products are designed to deliver wireless broadband services to both residential customers and businesses by creating economies of scale made possible by standards-based, interoperable products.

Sony Ericsson announces the P1




Today Sony Ericsson has announced a successor to the P990i and M600i. The P1 combines the best features of both phones along with a set of powerful hardware improvements. Being almost 25% smaller than the P990 (106 x 55 x 17 mm, 124 g), the P1 includes 3.2 Megapixel camera and 400% more free RAM memory (128 MB total / ~ 80 MB free) for applications significantly improving multi-tasking performance and application behavior. It is based on Symbian OS 9.1 and UIQ 3.0. Other features include UMTS, WiFi, Bluetooth with A2DP support, VoIP, 2.6" (240 x 320 pixels) touch screen with handwriting recognition, dual function keyboard, FM radio, 160 MB of internal storage memory and 512 MB M2 memory card. The phone has similar shape to the M600i, i.e. no flip keyboard known from previous P-series models. Push email support includes Exchange ActiveSync and BlackBerry Connect. The Sony Ericsson P1 is a tri-band GPRS 900/1800/1900 and UMTS 2100 handset with WiFi 802.11b. It will be available from Q3 2007.
